Let the world know that we celebrate education in Marion County.

Excellence in education is more than just good grades.  Is there a teacher that made a positive difference in your life?  Do you know a student that’s done something exceptional?  How about someone who went to school here in Marion County and then went on to do something noteworthy later in life?  There are plenty of educational success stories here.  You can recognize them.

Paramedic/Emergency Department Technician at Marion General Hospital
School(s) Attended: Pleasant High School, Tri-Rivers/Marion General School of Paramedicine

Wes Landon graduated from Pleasant High School in 1987. He continued his education, earning an Emergency Medical Services Certificate from Hocking College, Nelsonville, OH, and a diploma from Tri-Rivers/Marion General School of Paramedicine. In addition, he is required to maintain ongoing continuing education coursework.

He is a Paramedic / Emergency Department Technician at Marion General Hospital in the Emergency Department. In addition, he works for Stofcheck Ambulance Service.

Senior TechWriter / Supervisor at Microsoft
School(s) Attended: Harding High

Nathan Barnett graduated Harding High School in 1987. He went on to earn a BA in English and Psychology and a MA in Linguistics and Literature from Kent State University.

Nathan is currently employed as Senior TechWriter and supervises a team of writers for Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. In addition, he and his wife run a bed and breakfast.

President of Marion Area Chamber of Commerce
School(s) Attended: River Valley, Marion Technical College

Pam Hall graduated from River Valley High School in 1970 and attended Marion Technical College.

She is the President of the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce and serves on various community boards, including Rushmore Academy, Marion Community Foundation, and Marion CanDo.

Physician at The Washington Hospital / Partner and V.P. Greater Washington Radiologists
School(s) Attended: Pleasant Elementary, Baker Middle School, Harding High School

After graduating from Harding High School as part of the class of 1983, Michelle Kirshen went on to earn a B.S. in Biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine.

As of 2011, Michelle was a physician (Radiologist) at The Washington Hospital and was Partner and V.P. of Greater Washington Radiologists, Inc.

VP of Operations/General Manager at Gaco Western
School(s) Attended: Harding High School

Eric Zimmerman graduated from Harding High School in 1983. After high school, he went on to earn a BSME from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from Washington University.

In August 2011, Gaco Western (Waukesha, Wis.) announced they had appointed Eric as vice president of operations and general manager. He assumes leadership responsibility for the company’s Waukesha customer service, manufacturing, and purchasing operations.

Marion County Probate Judge

"The dictionary describes education as the “learning, knowledge, and enrichment” a person acquires during a lifetime," says Thomas. "I had eight years of formal education after I graduated from Harding High School.  Without it, I could not have had my career as an attorney and a Family Court Judge."

Publishing / Publisher of VMSD magazine
School(s) Attended: Harding and Marion Technical College

College wasn't Murray's first choice after graduating from Harding High School, but he says he quickly realized that he need, and wanted, more. He says that Marion Technical College (MTC) had just what he needed.

Murray was a founding and active member of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), a campus student group. The group explored economics and competed in nationwide contests, bring home several trophies.

Interior Design / Owner of Great Impressions
School(s) Attended: River Valley and Marion Technical College

After graduating from River Valley, Pat Case enrolled at Marion Technical College (MTC) because her mom said, "You are going to go somewhere and do something." Pat ended up being a part of the first graduating class at MTC in 1973 by earning an associate degree.

Pat had grown up with an entrepreneurial father who owned a truck door company. After she received her degree, she ended up in the family business.
